Join OCDCA and Pro Bono Partnership of Ohio for an educational, interactive virtual seminar. Grounded in the realities of today’s environment but intentionally forward-looking, this seminar offers a steady, solutions-oriented approach to leadership focused on preparedness, adaptability, and creating the conditions for nonprofit teams and organizations to thrive, even in difficult times.
Outcomes: Designed to help executives move beyond reactive decision-making and instead strengthen organizational resilience, participants will strengthen the financial, governance, legal, and human-centered leadership skills currently needed to reduce risk, stabilize their organizations, and build resilience that supports long-term mission success.
Through three expert-led presentations, participants will also gain practical tools to stabilize finances and plan for uncertainty, stay legally compliant and ensure boards are ready to govern, and build personal and team resilience using clear, actionable frameworks.
Seminar Agenda: This seminar will include three sessions led by the Pro Bono Partnership of Ohio, Panoramic Strategy, and Lighter Side of Climate.
1. Practical Steps for Nonprofit Financial Management in Uncertain Times.
Many nonprofit organizations are facing significant funding losses as the federal government pulls back support and philanthropic funders redeploy resources to meet other needs. Nonprofit leaders are required to make difficult decisions, often without full information.
In times of persistent uncertainty, resilience is built through clear thinking, disciplined choices, and decisive action. In this session, David Kaplan of Panoramic Strategy will provide a practical, integrated Rescue, Reposition, Recover framework to help nonprofit leaders move towards proactive decision-making. Participants will learn how to stabilize resources and liquidity, challenge assumptions and explore future scenarios, and translate strategy into action using simple, proven tools.
2. An Interactive Conversation on Board Readiness
Last year was a whirlwind of Executive Orders, funding changes, and shifting enforcement priorities. For many nonprofits, their leadership and boards were simply not ready. This year, we focus on being ready to govern.
It is more important than ever that nonprofits maintain a strong foundation of governance, stay legally compliant, and establish best practices and policies to help avoid problems that are costly to fix down the road and that could bring unwanted attention to your organization.
Through interactive scenarios led by our nonprofit law experts, we will focus on strengthening foundations so that boards are ready to tackle whatever comes next. Attendees will receive a resource with additional information, tips, and best practices.
3. 5 Steps to Building Resilience in You and Your Teams
The crucial financial and legal decisions that are required of nonprofit leaders in this moment come at a human cost to both executives and members of their team. When the challenges feel relentless – policy shifts, funding uncertainties, team burnout – leaders need practical ways to navigate uncertainty while keeping themselves and their teams grounded and effective.
This interactive session presented by Tamara Staton of Lighter Side of Climate will offer a clear, memorable framework for building resilience both in moments of acute stress and as an ongoing leadership practice. Participants will explore five steps that widen your capacity for handling what's coming: Notice • Accept • Connect • Practice • Rest
Participants will learn how to recognize what's happening in themselves and others, meet people where they are, communicate needs authentically, and create the conditions where both leaders and teams can thrive.
